RUBY Excerpt Reveal + Giveaway!!

By: Amanda Burke

When Ruby is sent to live in a huge manor with her distant grandmother, she has no idea what the future holds. It’s hard enough to deal with a new town and a mysterious boy. Little does she know that she’s part of a prophecy that dates back to the Salem Witch Hunts.

Years ago, a witch cast a spell on the one child who could save the world from darkness – and it’s Ruby’s job to protect it.

She looked down to see that a long, thin branch had broken off from the log and it was now protruding from just above her hip. Instinctively, she grasped it in her hand to pull it out and as she tugged, she screamed as excruciating pain swept through her body. The branch refused to budge an inch no matter how hard she tried, so with rapidly fading strength she waved her hand over it to free it with magic. It worked and there was a loud suction sound as it shot out and she screamed again and rolled around on the ground in sheer agony from the damage it had caused.

After a minute or so, she managed to stand and force herself to stumble on as the rain became more and more torrential. Feeling woozy and sick, she was also becoming increasingly disorientated and it made her fail to see that the sudden influx of water had caused some of the road ahead to become waterlogged and partially give way. Without even realizing it was there, she tumbled down into the deep crevice and slammed onto the earth below.

This time she didn’t even try to get up. She just lay there in the mud with the rain pelting down on her as her vision swam in and out.

From somewhere nearby she heard a dog bark and a male voice order it to be quiet. Then a whooshing sound filled her ears before heavy feet landed beside where she lay.

The last thing she felt were a pair of powerful arms lifting her up off the ground and then she allowed herself to drift into the inviting blackness.

  1. I really do believe in destiny. If I didn't then I would have to believe that all my choices are the only thing that is driving my future and that's a scary thought :) Thanks for the giveaway

  2. Hmmmm....I used to say no but it seems like everything always works out eventually. Maybe that is just persistence but I like to think it is destiny

  3. I am conflicted. Sometimes I believe what goes around comes around, so I guess that would mean yes. I do believe we are given choices along the way that allow us to affect our destiny.

  4. I don't believe in destiny. I think life is what you make of it.

  5. I believe that things work out the way they should and that we make our own destinies
